Media Expo in Mumbai from 12-14 May

Image
Returning to ‘India’s financial capital’ after two years, the trade fair will bring together over 100 brands with their latest technological capabilities in indoor and OOH advertising, printing, static and digital signage, retail displays, finishing and fabrication, as well as consumables and media. “Digitizing OOH spaces have opened up a massive opportunity – both for signage manufacturers, advertisers and media owners. Especially with things now back to normal and rising footfalls in airports, metros, malls, and other key engagement areas, the digital signage industry can move up a gear to become a more dominant force in advertising, alongside the traditional OOH. Through Media Expo Mumbai 2022, Messe Frankfurt India will continue to support the Indoor and Outdoor advertising segment by introducing various technologies into the spectrum,” stated Raj Manek, executive director and board member, Messe Frankfurt Asia. Opening doors from 12 – 14 May 2022 at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Gor...

Google & Facebook face CCI probe on India news media revenues

Image
In February, INS asked Google to compensate them for carrying their content online by sharing 85% of its ad revenues. “Google is taking a ‘giant share of advertising spends’ leaving publishers with a small share and that the publishers are facing a very opaque advertising system as they are unable to get the details of the Google advertising value chain.” Based on the INS complaint, the Competition Commission of India initiated an investigation into complaints against Google for abuse of its dominant position in the online news media market based on a plaint filed by the Indian Newspaper Society (INS). The INS says that while the news content is generated by the publishers, Google gets to keep an arbitrary and disproportionately large share of the advertising revenue since it controls and dominates the entire digital ecosystem including both buying and selling advertisements. It has also questioned the opacity and obliqueness of the Google ad revenue system. In mid-April 2022, ...

Printers are privileged to take part in nation-building – in the project of freedom and modernity

Image
If you are bothering to read this, you are privileged to be a printing and publishing business person, or a professional printer or journalist. If you are the first in your family or circle to be in this type of work, then welcome to this inclusive and enriching tradition. And if you represent the second or third generation of this rich legacy, congratulations, especially to the women amongst us. Where do we come from? From everywhere. From across the borders of partition and returnees from Africa and elsewhere. We are the grandchildren of migrants, farmers, station masters and booksellers, soldiers and doctors, small-town newspaper owners, photographers, government engineers, detective fiction writers, members of leftist theatre groups, and freedom fighters. We are midnight’s children and the children of the emergency when our hard-won constitutional democracy was threatened. Our community is varied and owes its legacy to the movement for independence that brought us freedom of ...

The print front end for your headless CMS – tohoop

Image
Publishers have to be able to simply display content on a wide variety of platforms. This article from ppi Media shows how to add professional InDesign integration to a web content management system (WCMS) such as WordPress or Drupal or a headless CMS. When it comes to publishing, everyone is talking about ‘headless CMS’ right now. While a classic WCMS captures and stores content in its back end and displays this content in format templates via a link to the front end, the front and back end are decoupled in a headless CMS. Instead, applications and websites can access the content from the CMS via an interface and display it individually. One of the advantages of a headless CMS is the fact that the content stored there can be displayed on one or more websites and also used in native iOS and Android apps. This makes headless CMS architecture appealing to mobile and web developers and digital publishers. But can print also be effectively integrated into a (headless) WCMS? Print’s ...
