Japan Inkjet Technology Fair takes off

Image
Inkjet is still a relatively new technology and there’s a regular flow of new processes and techniques so it’s useful to have events where people can catch up and learn about the latest ideas. In Europe, besides the larger exhibitions, there are also a number of technical and academic conferences, usually, complete with product demonstrations and sales opportunities. But Japan is not so well served in this regard despite having a large number of printer and component manufacturers. So the Japan Inkjet Technology Fair aimed to redress the balance for the Japanese industry with a two-day event in Tokyo featuring a conference with a room set aside for some 40 or so tables for vendors to show off what they are working on. The key to the event was the opportunity for networking, helped by a large social gathering on the first evening, since inkjet is a collaborative business that works best when people from different disciplines and companies come together. The event was set up Akiyos...

Nessan Cleary's Letter from London

Image
So, October. Just to sum up where we in Britain are now – a long time ago, back in July, Boris Johnson was prime minister and his MPs voted that they had lots of confidence in him. But then most of his ministers demonstrated that confidence by resigning en masse. Johnson resigned and then spent much of August abroad on holiday while still being paid to be prime minister. In September, a tiny and very unrepresentative electorate decided that Liz Truss’ economic lunacy was the best plan for Britain. And this month we have Rishi Sunak – my MacOS spell checker keeps correcting his name to Sunk, which accurately describes the situation for most people in the UK now. Confused? Well, that’s politics for you. And at least Britain is better off than some of those European countries where the government changes every month… Sunak is Britain’s first Asian PM so hurrah for diversity. Then again, he’s another Oxford-educated man, just like David Cameron and Boris Johnson. He’s also Britain’s ...

Correspondent Priyanka Tanwar interacted with journalist-author Sudeep Chakravarti at the Jaipur Literature Festival 2022 on his transition from journalism to writing books, the significance of a book cover design, inspiration, depiction of history in school textbooks, and more. Here are some edited excerpts from the interview:  Indian Printer and Publisher (IPP) – You have been an author for over 15 years now. What led you to choose this profession? https://indianprinterpublisher.com/blog/2022/11/jbm-19-23-january-2023/ Sudeep Chakravarti – Well, maybe for me it wasn't that difficult a leap of faith because I was first a journalist and I think I still am in some ways, even though I write creative nonfiction and fiction and short stories. I have always written – I have always written from the time when I started working as a trainee journalist. I have been trained to write. I have always tried to inject mood and color and personality and tone and taps to the best of my abil...

Ahmedabad’s Soparkar & Kothari Tech to expand production

The global outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic warranted a growing inclination toward personal hygiene and well-being. Education, uplifting incomes, increasing customer awareness about menstrual hygiene and personal care products such as sanitary napkins, tampons, baby diapers, and adult diapers, and the slow, long-term rise in the population of working women and better availability of low-cost products fueled the demand in the sanitary napkin market. According to the latest data by Maximize Market Research, the Indian hygiene market is expected to rise from Rs 4,510 crore (approximately US$ 550 million) at a CAGR of 12.3 % (forecast period 2021-27) to Rs 10,159 crore (approximately US$ 1,238 million) in 2027. Around 36% of Indian women use menstrual hygiene products according to the National Family Health Survey data, which leaves tremendous scope for the growth of this market segment. The last decade has witnessed several collaborations between the government, non-profit organiza...
