Interview – Raj Manek, Messe Frankfurt Asia

  The 47 th edition of Media Expo was held from 18 – 20 November 2021 at India Expo Center, Greater Noida, just across the river from New Delhi. Indian Printer & Publisher correspondent Priyanka Tanwar got a chance to interact with Raj Manek, executive director, Messe Frankfurt Asia Holdings . Valmet will supply grade conversion to rebuild VPK’s Alizay mill

  Valmet will supply a grade conversion rebuild to VPK’s Alizay mill in France. In the project, the paper machine, which currently produces fine paper grades, will be rebuilt to produce recycled lightweight containerboard grades to support Alizay’s plans for long-term sustainable development in circular economy. The start-up is scheduled for the end of 2022. The order is included in Valmet's orders received of the fourth quarter 2021. The value of the order will not be disclosed. “We have excellent relations with VPK Group from earlier projects, for example  Blue Paper's grade conversion rebuild in France. Mimaki to exhibit latest innovations at Salon C!Print France

Xsys announces price increases for nyloprint product range

  Xsys has announced price increases across the nyloprint product range from 1 February 2022. The increase comes as a direct response to the unprecedented levels of cost inflation, which up until now have been mitigated by the company through various cost-reduction initiatives and projects, as well as technology improvements and other efficiency gains. However, in 2021, the cost inflation being absorbed by the company has increased to unequaled levels. Cost inflation is being passed on by suppliers and is present across a number of input costs as detailed below -  Raw material and feedstock suppliers are implementing double-digit price increases. Soaring gas and electricity costs have resulted in significant inflation in Xsys production costs and increased costs from suppliers. Freight costs are increasing, with the World Container Index at +15% since July 2021. New Delhi World Book Fair @ 50

  The 50th edition of the New Delhi World Book Fair 2022, from 8 – 16 January 2022 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, will have a physical format. The special edition will commemorate 75 years of the country's independence with the theme ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.’ The book event will witness an array of literary activities including book releases, book and picture exhibitions, panel discussions, seminars, workshops, author interactions, and more at the exhibition’s theme pavilion. The book fair will be held in its physical format after a gap due to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. Held virtually in 2021, the NDWBF nevertheless saw participation from visitors from over 70 countries, along with key Indian as well as international publishing houses. The 2021 virtual edition is said to have garnered 2.8 million hits. Fujifilm unveils 6-color Revoria in India

  Fujifilm India held a launch event on 7 December for its Revoria Press PC 1120 in India at its India Distributor,  Insight Print Communications premises in Faridabad in the Delhi NCR. The high-end digital press can print up to 6 colors simultaneously with the two extra colors beyond the standard CMYK. There are six extra colors inks or toners which means that a great number of special effects can be created accurately. The Revoria is now available for sale in India and customers are welcome for demonstrations at the Fujifilm Demo center located in Faridabad.  The Revoria print engine can print at 120 pages a minute on media from 52 gsm to 400 gsm. It can print on substrates including colored, clear, transparent, photo media and label stock, metallic, and textured paper. Cartons, textile tags, security printing, can also be produced. HP ties up with TechNova for digital cartons and labels in India

  In a bid to expand its distribution network in India for the digital printing business, HP today (17 December 2021) announced a strategic association with TechNova Imaging Systems – the largest offset Indian offset plate manufacturer for cartons and label digital printing. However, for commercial and photo segments, TechNova will continue to distribute Konica Minolta digital presses.  TechNova has provided and manufactured offset plates in the country for half a century now. Soon after the launch of the Indigo press at IPEX in Birmingham in 1993, it became the distributor of Benny Landa’s Indigo press. Although TechNova’s attempt at the distribution of the Indigo was too far ahead of its time, and HP acquired Indigo more than a decade later, HP Indigo , has come back full circle to the Indian offset print technology and marketing pioneer – at least for cartons and labels.   Calgary-based on-demand print and information solutions provider WCD recently used Drytac Protac AMP film with microban antimicrobial protection on a specialist project to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 among workers at a local distributor’s warehouse. WCD was tasked with planning, designing, and construction business WII Projects Calgary to create a café/kitchen experience for the business, overhaul the facility’s look, and ensure maximum protection for staff using the refreshment area. The primary challenge for WCD centered around the protection element, with the company having to source a material that would help cut the risk of the virus spread among workers using the facility while at the same time not impacting the look of the new images or surfaces underneath. Brigar Media invests in two Ricoh presses

  Monotech Systems has installed a Ricoh Pro C5310S color digital production press and a Ricoh Pro 8310S monochrome digital production press at Ahmedabad-based Brigar Media. Established in August 2020, Brigar Media offers digital book printing services and is run by Sagar Shah and Brijesh Panchal, both of whom work as directors. Built as a right-sized solution, the Ricoh Pro C5310s offer a fusion of vibrant color, agile media handling, and a wide range of finishing options. According to Shah and Panchal, the company opted for the Ricoh production presses for their quality and robustness. Also, the after-sales of Monotech Systems is also a fact that they considered while going for the presses.  The new report brought out by the World Printers Forum chapter in India offers publishers a practical guide to migrate to lower grammage newsprint, helping them to make their business sustainable by optimizing printing costs. This report provides a practical guide to printing using 40 g/m2 newsprint and takes the reader through the various aspects that need to be considered. Detailed analysis of lower grammage newsprint, supported by laboratory findings, provide an understanding of where things could go wrong. Another important element of this report is the detailed evaluation of different TIC  (total ink coverage) parameters according to the grammage of the newsprint. The savings in printing could not only emanate from the cost of newsprint, but also on the savings in ink. ISO 12647-3 recommends TIC 220 for cold-set offset, irrespective of the grammage of newsprint used. Metsä Board’s paperboard packaging for La Ratte potatoes

  A plastic-reducing alternative to potato packaging has been introduced by Finnish Tuorekartano Oy when it recently launched its special potatoes in paperboard packaging . Tuorekartano Oy's premium quality La Ratte potatoes will now be packed in easily recyclable and biodegradable packaging made of a lightweight and durable paperboard produced by Metsä Board , part of Metsä Group. The paperboard is ideally suited to protect the potatoes from damage and sunlight. The small package size will also help to reduce food waste. "Tuorekartano is a company committed to Agenda 2030 and Commitment 2050 and has set itself clear sustainability targets. Plastic-free packaging, such as La Ratte cartons, is part of these goals.
